We are about to launch into a study of "The Importance of Being Earnest". I want you to read the following essay, written in 1897 by George Meredith, called "The Idea of Comedy". I would like to you post a blog, in which you reduce the essay to its essence: you will choose 5 statements from the essay, which you think represent the seminal premise(s) of the essay and explain what they mean in your own words. You will then reflect upon these statements. How has Meredith's conception of comedy held up? Would the general public agree with his views? Do you? Why or why not? Keep the post to 400 words(excluding the quoted material from the essay) Do NOT go over!
